ExoCross Championships: Orion Mission XC-3000

In ExoCross Championship Mode, you’ll take on six different series—two per car—on the path towards becoming ExoCross’ Ultimate Champion. As you advance, you’ll take on higher horsepower and more challenging courses with each series. Today, we’ll take you through Orion Mission XC-3000, the fourth slate of races as you continue your campaign through Proteus.

Orion Mission XC-3000

If you struggled a bit with some of the layouts in the ExoFest 3000 SuperSeries, you might find Mission XC-3000 a little more fun. Many of these tracks have a totally different flow in the opposite direction, so keep your head down and keep chasing the checkered flag!

Round 1: Tower Underpass Reverse | 3 laps

The trickiest part of Tower Underpass is its namesake, but it can be much easier to get right from the opposite direction for two reasons: one, you’ll see it at the end of the lap when cars are more settled out, and two, you’ll see the start of the ramp in open air while crossing the bridge. Earlier in the lap, swinging into the outside line after the rock-face chicane instead of going into the heavy dip also helps you keep on the ground a little more.

Round 2: Goldenkurve Forward | 2 laps

Run in this direction, Goldenkurve starts you on pavement before quickly switching you back to dirt. The first corner of consequence is a right-hander with container boxes to its outside—make sure you brake early enough not to blow this! Towards the end of the lap, you’ll have a long, paved run-up to the track’s signature corner, and the blind crest that launched you into a hard-braking left-hander in the other direction now becomes a right-hander that only results in gentle air.

Round 3: Velocidrome Upper Reverse | 4 laps

Velocidrome’s Reverse layouts feature some of the longest straight(ish) sections in the world of ExoCross, so be ready to spend your boost early before drafting at full throttle to recharge it. Mind the exposed wall ends on the path up to the Bridge and on the Bridge itself, and don’t carry too much speed into the On Ramp tunnel, because if you overshoot it into the wall there, you can cause a pretty big pileup.

Round 4: Crimson Wheatland Reverse | 3 laps

One of Ultima’s shortest courses, Crimson Wheatland can drive like a slalom course most of the way around. After a few left-right combos on the dirt, you’ll get to open it up a bit more on pavement, but take care not to overshoot the paved left-hander with the rock face to your inside, because recovery can be tough here! While you’ll be going back and forth quite a bit on the rest of the lap as well, keep in mind that you’ll need to be full throttle on most of it to stand a chance, so managing your weight transfer is key.

Round 5: Peaks and Valleys Forward | 3 laps

Not only does Peaks and Valleys let you skip the tricky chicane-bridge combo of Lakefront Esses, it also has some of the most fun sweepers in Megaterra. Use the fast right-hander to set yourself up to power over the bridge and into the area’s main line. As with its sister layout, Lakefront Esses, there are consequences for overdriving most corners on the second half of the lap; either you’ll go flying off into the distance, or in the case of the rock-face chicane, you might send a wheel or two flying. A quick, early tap of the brakes can be your friend.

Round 6: Speedring Forward | 6 laps

This is the last time you’ll see Speedring in an ExoCross championship, so savor the moment. The Orion dances through the first corner at high speed and provides one of the most fun racing experiences on Proteus on this lay out.
